Journeys Lesson 12 – The Earth Dragon Awakes
Every week your child will read an anchor text as well as a paired text. The anchor text is used to work on fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary skills and strategies. The paired text may be similar in theme and or genre. This text will reinforce vocabulary usage. Student understanding of the anchor text and vocabulary will be assessed on Fridays.
Students will also work on grammar and spelling throughout the week. Assigned spelling words will also be assessed on Fridays.
The weekly story (with audio recording), spelling, and vocabulary lists are posted to Google Classroom weekly.
Important Note: Due to the weekly MSTEP vocabulary words, there will be no Journey’s vocabulary quizzes.
M-Step Prep
Vocabulary Words
Students took their first MSTEP vocabulary quiz today! Anyone who earned 80% or better received a charm for his/her charm necklace. These charm necklaces serve as an ongoing reflection of their accomplishments. Great job!
Students brought home the Week #2 list and extra credit crossword puzzle on Friday, December 2nd. These words are to be studied at home/ If students complete and return the extra credit crossword puzzle, they will earn 1 extra credit point on the quiz. On Fridays, the students will be quizzed on these words. When your child earns a 80% or better on Friday’s quiz, he/she will earn a charm for his/her M-STEP charm necklace. Every Friday your child will bring home M-STEP vocabulary words and he/she will be quizzed on the following Friday.
Due to these quizzes, there will be no Journey’s vocabulary quiz on Fridays.
Homework Packets
Students are also bringing home their first MSTEP Homework packet today. These are intended to help students practice the variety of skills they may see on the MSTEP. If your child earns 80% or better on their M-STEP practice weekly homework, they will also earn a charm towards their M-STEP charm necklace. Homework packets will be sent home on Friday and will be due back to school by the next Thursday.
I have worked with the class to pace out the packet for the week. If they follow the schedule, it will help chunk this large task down into smaller, more manageable pieces.
