Specials Schedule

–Media Literature: Book checkout begins the week of September 19th. Students should return any books checked out from the Media Center so that these books may become available for other students to enjoy.

-Physical Education: Students are required to wear tennis shoes in order to participate safely.

Reminders

1. Arrival is 8:30am. Students will be marked tardy after 8:45am. Dismissal is at 3:30pm. If you are getting out of your car to pickup your child from school, please park a block or two away from the building in order to keep traffic flowing smoothly.
2. Students will have a snack each morning. If your child is participating, please send in only healthy options. Fruits and vegetables are a great choice! Please refrain from sending in anything with peanuts/tree nuts for snack as we have students with allergies.

Learning Calendar 

I do my best to send home a learning calendar each week. This is an overview of what we will be working on in the classroom, as well as upcoming tests/quizzes. It is subject to change throughout the week as we may need to adjust our schedule. Please continue to check and sign your child’s planner each night. Thank you for your partnership!

The calendar will be posted to the blog each week, and your student will bring home a hard copy on Mondays.

Sep. 12th – 16th

NWEA Testing

The class will be taking the NWEA reading and math tests next week. There is nothing students need to do to prepare for this test. I use the results solely for planning purposes and to better understand what your child needs help with this school year.

• This is an organization that hosts events after school for students, keeps parents up to date on events, and provides the teachers with support throughout the year. I encourage each of you to join and be a part of this community at Arno.
• When you sign up, please write “signed up for PTA” in your child’s planner. Your child will receive a classroom reward if you sign up.

Journeys Lesson 1 – Because of Winn-Dixie

Every week your child will read an anchor text as well as a paired text. The anchor text is used to work on fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary skills and strategies. The paired text may be similar in theme and or genre. This text will reinforce vocabulary usage. Student understanding of the anchor text and vocabulary will be assessed on Fridays.

Students will also work on grammar and spelling throughout the week. Assigned spelling words will also be assessed on Fridays.

The weekly story (with audio recording), spelling, and vocabulary lists are posted to Google Classroom weekly.
