Journeys Lesson 6 – Invasion from Mars

Every week your child will read an anchor text as well as a paired text. The anchor text is used to work on fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary skills and strategies. The paired text may be similar in theme and or genre. This text will reinforce vocabulary usage. Student understanding of the anchor text and vocabulary will be assessed on Fridays.

Students will also work on grammar and spelling throughout the week. Assigned spelling words will also be assessed on Fridays.

The weekly story (with audio recording), spelling, and vocabulary lists are posted to Google Classroom weekly.

September 19th – September 23rd

Media Literature: Book checkout begins the week of September 19th. Students should return any books checked out from the Media Center so that these books may become available for other students to enjoy.

-Physical Education: Students are required to wear tennis shoes in order to participate safely.

 

Reminders

  1. Arrival is 8:30am. Students will be marked tardy after 8:45am. Dismissal is at 3:30pm. If you are getting out of your car to pickup your child from school, please park a block or two away from the building in order to keep traffic flowing smoothly.
  2. Monday’s lunch is Domino’s Pepperoni Pizza. Here is the link to the monthly lunch calendar.
  3. Only regular, unflavored water may be put in student water bottles. Spills happen, and they are easier to clean when it’s just plain water.
  4. If chromebooks go home, please return them completely charged. We have limited outlets within the classroom.
  5. Students will have a snack each morning. If your child is participating, please send in only healthy options. Fruits and vegetables are a great choice! Please refrain from sending in anything with peanuts/tree nuts for snack as we have students with allergies.

Learning Calendar 

I do my best to send home a learning calendar each week. This is an overview of what we will be working on in the classroom, as well as upcoming tests/quizzes. It is subject to change throughout the week as we may need to adjust our schedule. Please continue to check and sign your child’s planner each night. Thank you for your partnership!

The calendar will be posted to the blog each week, and your student will bring home a hard copy on Mondays.
